Doctor, patient, mom, and more

The Quick and Dirty (SBAR* version):

My wife and I have been together for more than 20 years.  We met in training, and have been practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN: doctors who care for women during pregnancy, deliver babies, operate on and medicate ‘lady parts’ as a surgeon friend calls it) in Minneapolis and its suburbs since the early 2000’s.  We have two daughters, teenagers as I write this.  My wife and I had sudden, severe medical crises in 2020 that had nothing to do with Covid: she had a heart attack at age 46 with virtually no risk factors, and I had a benign but large brain tumor, with no real symptoms until I had a seizure.

This is the story of how our family came to be, what we’ve done, how we survived all of the above, and what we’ve learned.  If you've found this page, you or someone you know is likely struggling with healing in some way.  I hope that you find this helpful.

*SBAR is a strategy for succinct communication: Situation, Brief, Assessment, Recommendations.   The Recommendations are to read this, or don’t.   Acronyms are the rule in medicine, particularly OB/GYN.
